Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case Live: Supreme Court to Resume Hearing on RG Kar Hospital Case at 10:30 AM Today.

The Supreme Court will resume hearings today at 10:30 AM. The case involves the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The CBI will present its status report in a sealed cover. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud directed this on August 20.

The Court had previously taken suo motu cognizance of the case and instructed the CBI to provide a detailed update on August 22, including information on the mob vandalism at the hospital.

The West Bengal government faces criticism for its handling of the situation. They have been asked to report on the mob that disrupted the hospital during the protest. In particular, they need to provide details about the incident.

The CBI is now questioning Sandip Ghosh, former RG Kar Hospital principal, for the sixth consecutive day. The Supreme Court has formed a national task force to improve safety for medical professionals. The focus is on enhancing security for women amid ongoing national protests.

This task force is required to deliver an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

Doctors’ associations, which have been striking, have pledged to cooperate with the new task force and are advocating for a central law to better protect medical staff.

Amid nationwide protests, the Supreme Court has launched a National Task Force (NTF). The task force will address safety issues for medical professionals, with a focus on women.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) has recommended that the NTF establish a portal for anonymous complaints from doctors who are concerned about their safety. The CJI assured resident doctors that their voices will be heard by the NTF. Moreover, this will be done without requiring their direct participation.

Doctors’ organizations, currently on strike, have pledged to collaborate with the NTF and are calling for a national law to enhance safety protocols.

The task force is expected to provide an interim report within three weeks and a comprehensive final report within two months.

Go back to home.
